Some of the standard methods available to detect the presence of CHD are:

  • blood tests

  • electrocardiography (measuring the electrical activity of the heart)

  • echocardiography (ultrasound of the heart)

  • nuclear imaging (MPI and Thallium scans provide information on blood flow and the pumping action of the heart). 

  • coronary angiography (cardiac catheterisation provides information on location of narrowing or blockages in the coronary arteries).

Existing treatments for CHD are:

  • medication based treat ments (ACE inhibitors, antiarrhythmic drugs, anticoagulants, anti-platelets, betablockers, calcium channel blockers, cholesterol lowering drugs, diuretics)

  • minor invasive procedures (balloon angiography and coronary stenting)
